Helping your child

How we can work together

  • Your child is special and we aim to provide a warm and stimulating environment for them to be able to flourish and be the best that they can be.
  • You are the single largest influence on your child’s attitude to school. Please support us and be positive. If you have an issue talk to us. We are more than willing to help.
  • If we have an issue we will ask you to come and talk to us so we can enlist your help to support your child.
  • We uphold every child’s right to learn and have a raft of approaches to address any needs or gaps in understanding. The closer you work with us, the faster we can address those gaps.
  • Our curriculum offers improved life chances by actively teaching: Core skills in English, mathematics, science, health and wellbeing and communication technology, so that your child can communicate appropriately.
  • Learning is embedded by applying the core knowledge and skills in a stimulating and meaningful topic curriculum.
  • Preparation for life in Modern Britain.
  • Visitors, specific projects and visits, including residential trips.
  • Experience in a wide range of careers including STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).
  • Health, safety, emotional and physical well being through learning skills and SEAL resources (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning).
  • Learning how other people have lived in the past and in the present day.
  • We offer a range of SEAL booklets to support your role as parents such as, ‘Say no to bullying’ and ‘Changes and relationships’.
  • Health and safety, and learning skills information is displayed around the site.
  • We offer e-safety information for you to stay safe online at home, which online games are appropriate and anti-radicalisation support.

How you can help your child

  • Read to and with your child. Enjoy books. Use our library.
  • Develop an understanding that home and school want the best for your child. We can achieve this together.

  • Explain the difference between formal and informal language.
  • Tell us if someone new is collecting your child from school.
  • Write to us if you want your child to walk home independently.
  • Attend regularly
  • Let us know if there are changes to your personal circumstances which may have an affect on your child particularly any safeguarding issues.
  • Let us know of any medical problems of dietary requirements
  • Leave your child promptly so we can get a prompt start to the day.
  • If your child has vomited you need to wait 48 hours after this before they return to school.
  • Please do not smoke onsite, use your mobile phone onsite or bring dogs onto the school site.
  • Join us at social and learning events, there are many during the year.
  • Join the Friends of Mill Dam Group to raise funds for the children.
  • Help your child to complete an acceptable use agreement so they can use our ICT equipment appropriately.
